International Convention for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants
International Convention (1961) and Additional Act of November 10, 1972

Accession by the Spanish State

The Secretary-General of the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV) presents his compliments to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and, in conformity with the provisions of Article VIII, paragraph (6), of the above Additional Act, has the honor to inform him that, according to the notification received from the Government of the Swiss Confederation on April 24, 1980, the Government of the Spanish State deposited, on April 18, 1980, its instrument of accession to the International Convention for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants, signed at Paris on December 2, 1961, and to the Additional Act of November 10, 1972, amending the said International Convention.

When depositing, on October 16, 1978, its application for accession, the Government of the Spanish State made the following declaration: "Pursuant to Article 34(1) of the Convention, the said Convention will apply to the entire territory of the Spanish State." (Translation)

The Spanish State will belong to Class V for the purpose of determining the amount of its contribution towards the budget of UPOV.

The said International Convention and Additional Act will enter into force, with respect to the Spanish State, thirty days after the deposit of its instrument of accession, that is, on May 18, 1980.
