Hague System: Amendments to Common Regulations

At its 2021 meeting, the Assembly of the Hague Union adopted a number of amendments to the Common Regulations PDF, Hague System, Common Regulations.

What will change?

In a nutshell:

Amendments to… Effects
Rule 5 Introduce a general provision that can excuse a delay in meeting a time limit to perform a required action with WIPO due to a force majeure, e.g., COVID-19 pandemic.
Rule 17

Extend standard publication of an international registration – currently six months from the date of registration – to twelve months. Note: This will be applicable to all international applications filed on or after January 1, 2022.

Introduce the possibility to request earlier publication (any time) of an international registration.

Rule 21 Make it easier for a new owner to request the recording of the change in ownership.
