Cabo Verde Joins the Lisbon System

April 6, 2022

On April 6, 2022, the Government of Cabo Verde deposited its instrument of accession to the Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement on Appellations of Origin and Geographical Indications (“Geneva Act”). Cabo Verde is the 38th member of the Lisbon System, which now covers 57 countries.

This accession will enable producers and other interested stakeholders of Cabo Verde to quickly and easily secure international protection of the distinctive designations of their products – such as the emblematic appellation of origin “Cha das Caldeiras – Vinho do Fogo” (wine produced on the slopes of the “Pico do Fogo” volcano).

The Geneva Act will enter into force in Cabo Verde on July 6, 2022.
