Launch of the second IP training module for trainers

May 16, 2024

A further step towards the establishment of the IP training center in Algeria was taken with the launch, on May 5, of the second training module for the trainers who will supervise the center’s future students.

This second module in the train-the-trainer program covers IP management and marketing. The first module, on teaching methodologies, took place last November.

This initiative is part of the WIPO Academy and the Intellectual Property Training Institutions (IPTIs) pogram approved by the WIPO Committee on Development and Intellectual Property in 2010.

The IPTIs program is designed to meet the needs of Member States in the field of IP training and skills development. Their programs are tailored to each country’s needs, priorities and development objectives.

The process of establishing an IP training center in Algeria began in March 2019, and is now approaching its operational phase with this second module scheduled from May 5 to 9. It will be followed by a third module focusing on advanced IP topics, and a final module on advanced teaching methodologies.

The current module is taught by three international experts. This second module aims to strengthen future trainers’ expertise and knowledge of IP management and marketing, and to help them to acquire the teaching and technical skills needed to train specific target audiences on these subjects.

This session brings together 63 trainers from a variety of backgrounds, including the public, private and academic sectors. It was introduced by opening statements from Mr. Abdelhafid Belmehdi, Director General of INAPI, and Samir Thaalbi, Director General of the National Office of Copyrights and Related Rights (ONDA), as well as Mr. Mohamed Saleck Ahmed Ethmane, Director of the WIPO Algeria Office, and Ms. Caren Naanouh, WIPO IPTI Project Specialist.

The Directors General of INAPI and ONDA expressed their thanks to WIPO for its extensive assistance and, in particular, for the creation of the center, which will serve as a valuable capacity-building tool.

The Director of the WIPO Algeria Office underlined the importance of the role played by these institutions in meeting local IP teaching and educational needs. He urged participants to take full advantage of the training, in view of their future responsibilities, for they themselves will deliver training courses for sectors with an interest in IP.

INAPI and ONDA are WIPO‘s two main partners in this initiative, which is being implemented on WIPO‘s side by the Academy (a program for IP training institutions) and the WIPO Algeria Office.

The center is expected to make a significant contribution to IP capacity-building, and to provide on-site training opportunities for all those wishing to use the IP system.
