September 3, 2024

On August 7, WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) partnered with the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) to host the Forum on Gender Equity in Industrial Property: Institutional Policies and Actions in Latin America. The event, held at the National Historical Museum in Rio de Janeiro, brought together representatives from intellectual property institutes across 14 countries in the region, with the support of the Brazilian Intellectual Property Association (ABPI).

During the opening, Beatriz Amorim-Borher, Director of WIPO, highlighted that WIPO launched the Gender Equity Program in the region in 2017 to encourage the development of policies and guidelines within IP institutes, the collection of data, and the establishment of measures and services aimed at increasing women's participation in IP protection mechanisms.

The forum featured two panels with the participation of both Brazilian and international experts, discussing policies to promote gender equity in the Brazilian innovation system and the broader context of innovation and gender in Latin America.
