October 29, 2024

WIPO Nigeria Office has collaborated with the Music Business Academy (MBA) Program to provide training and capacity-building in the business aspects of the music industry through scholarship opportunities to five aspiring industry professionals in the 2024/2025 cohort of the program.

The Music Business Academy program, established in 2020 by the Creative Industries Initiative for Africa (CIIF), is aimed at providing knowledge and capacity-building to music and entertainment professionals with the ultimate goal of developing the employable workforce in the African Music Industry. The program runs as a comprehensive 9-month vocational program that educates aspiring professionals about the music industry's business aspects. From its inception till date, over 1000 aspiring entertainment industry professionals have graduated from the MBA program.

In 2023, the WIPO Nigeria Office supported the MBA by sponsoring the intellectual property module within the program. Following the completion of the module, an intellectual property workshop was also organized by WNO and the MBA for the program participants and other interested individuals.

This year, through the Music Business Academy Beneficiaries fund, CIIF identified applicants from low-income and disadvantaged communities in Nigeria eligible for scholarships to participate in the program. The WIPO Nigeria Office will support five of these applicants, who were identified and selected by CIIF. The beneficiaries of the scholarship are: Nsikanabasi Uduokpong, Preye Davis, Johny Joe Jesse, Azuka Nwadialo and Adedamola Adenibuyan.
