Twenty-Two Nigerian SMEs enter the WIPO project on IP for SMEs in the Indigenous Fashion and Craft Industries in Nigeria

The WIPO Nigeria Office (WNO) in collaboration with the Nigerian Copyright Commission, is delighted to announce the selection of 22 small business entrepreneurs into the WIPO Project on IP for SMEs in the Indigenous Fashion and Craft Industries in Nigeria.

The 22 participants, representing SMEs in the leatherworks, Adire/Batik and Raffia sectors, were formally onboarded into the program via a virtual event which held on July 3, 2024.

 

Launched on May 31, 2024, the WIPO Project on IP for SMEs in the Indigenous Fashion and Craft Industries in Nigeria invited the participation of small businesses across Nigeria in the mentoring and capacity building program focused on leveraging intellectual property (IP) as a business development and financing strategy.

The following 22 entrepreneurs were selected to participate on the program, from a total of 67 applications received, and based on defined criteria including viability, sustainability, IP potential and local impact:

Over the next four months, the 22 selected participants will benefit from tailored IP and business mentoring through WIPO’s IP Management Clinics aimed at supporting their business strategies, as well as their capacity to utilize the IP system.
