WIPO Nigeria Office engages with the creative and tech community at the Omniverse Summit in Lagos, Nigeria

WIPO Nigeria Office (WNO) was present at the Omniverse Summit, which held from 27 February 27 to March 1,2024 in Lagos Nigeria, to engage with creative and tech professionals as well as raise awareness and increase knowledge about intellectual property in the ecosystem.

The Omniverse Summit, described as a convergence of African tech, innovation, creativity, and enterprise; was organized by the Innovation Support Network (ISN) and supported by the Digital Transformation Centre Nigeria. It took place at the Landmark Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos and featured exhibitions, workshops, keynote addresses and panel discussions on topics surrounding the creative and tech ecosystem in Nigeria.

WNO, represented by Taiwo Farai (Communications Officer) and Olaronke Famuyiwa (Program Officer) in conjunction with the IP for Business Division (IPBD) WIPO, set up an information booth on the exhibition floor for the entire duration of the event providing an invaluable opportunity for entrepreneurs, creatives, and legal professionals to hold interactions with WIPO representatives on issues around intellectual property and WIPO’s services

To further drive awareness on the role of IP for entrepreneurs and tech ecosystem, the WNO organized a practical workshop titled “Identifying and Protecting IP Assets” which was facilitated by Mr. Ayo Adetula, Partner, Aluko and Oyebode, and Mr. Christopher Kalanje, Counsellor, IP for Business Division, WIPO.

On Friday, the WNO further curated a panel discussion on the topic “Mind to Market – How to Effectively Deliver Your Ideas as Profitable Products”. During the discussion panel, the speakers Mr. Edward Israel-Ayide, Founder and Communications Strategist, Carpe Diem Solutions; Ms. Similoluwa Oyelude, Intellectual Property Attorney and Partner at Gelias & Co; Mr. Joba Oloba, Founder The Nest Technology Park, Lagos; Mr. Christopher Kalanje, Counsellor, WIPO IP for Business Division and Ms. Olaronke Famuyiwa, Program Officer, WNO had an engaging conversation on the crucial role of IP in turning ideas to profit. The event was moderated by Ms. Farai.

In line with the mandate of the WIPO Nigeria Office to promote awareness and strengthen capacity in the area of IP for development, this event provided a valuable opportunity to engage real-time with the tech and creative community in Lagos and build IP capacity in one of the largest creative and tech ecosystems in Nigeria.
