WIPO is proud to announce our collaboration with the ASEAN Secretariat (ASEC) and the ASEAN Working Group on Intellectual Property Cooperation (AWGIPC) in facilitating the AWGIPC and ASEC as regards the development of the ASEAN Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Action Plan 2026-2030. This fourth Action Plan aims to “Advance an Effective, Enterprising and Inclusive IP Ecosystem in the ASEAN Region” by 2030.
The Second Workshop on the development of the ASEAN IPR) Action Plan 2026-2030 was held at the ASEC in Jakarta, Indonesia, from March 18 to 20. Its successful completion marked another important step in regional cooperation and integration with ASEAN Member States proposing many bold and practical Strategic Initiatives. These relate to the establishment of a forward-looking, user-centric ASEAN IPR regime with MSMEs, businesses, innovators and creators, among others, being empowered through the provision of strategic resources and tools to extract and leverage meaningful commercial values from their respective market-driven IP assets across the region.
The workshop started with an insightful presentation by Mr Keoy Soo Earn, formerly a Global Consulting Deloitte Private Leader and Southeast Asia Deloitte Private and Private Equity Leader. He shared on the current global trends affecting ASEAN economies and illustrated how diversity can also be an ASEAN strength. He also elaborated on how ASEAN can synergistically play a useful role in in the green and blue economy spaces and establish the related and competitive ASEAN supply chains.
Following that presentation, the lead consultant, Mr Winston Chan, Chief Executive Officer of FT Consulting, facilitated the workshop with interesting AI tools. His rich IP expertise and experience in ASEAN, together with the active and collaborative participation of representatives from ASEAN Member States, led to the successful formulation of a range of Strategic Initiatives that will drive the region's IP landscape forward in the years to come.
The ASEAN IPR Action Plan 2026-2030 will be finalized in the third and final workshop which will be held on May 8-9, 2025 at the 75th AWGIPC Meeting in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
