10th Anniversary of IP Asset Management for Business Professionals Course

The WIPO Academy, the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), the Korea Invention Promotion Association (KIPA), and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) jointly organized the 10th edition of the annual four-day face-to-face training course on intellectual property (IP) management for business professionals from November 5 to 8 in Seoul, Republic of Korea.

Mr. Sechang Cheon, Vice Commissioner of KIPO, Mr. Sherif Saadallah, Executive Director of the WIPO Academy, and Mr. Joonho Koh, President of KIPA, opened the milestone celebration of the joint training course.

As a blended learning program, the training course started with an online phase comprising the IP Panorama Multimedia Toolkit and the Advanced Distance Learning Course on IP Management (DL-450), followed by the face-to-face component in Seoul.

About the participants

39 business professionals from 32 countries attended the training course. Two award-winning scientists from the L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Program also participated as a continuation of their previous trainings on IP with WIPO. Alumni of past editions were invited to network with the participants and present their experiences with the course, particularly on how it influenced their businesses and IP careers.

What did the training course cover?

In addition to alumni presentations, the training course included a study visit and a range of lectures and interactive sessions on topics such as:

  • Innovation management;
  • The myths and realities about technology transfer of the most innovative universities;
  • Data driven innovation;
  • Open innovation, open licensing and open science;
  • Value chain management
  • Trade secrets;
  • A licensing negotiation game; and
  • A strategic IP management simulation game.
