The WIPO Academy contributed to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD)’s masterclass series on eTrade for women-led digital businesses in Africa. UNCTAD held two masterclass sessions, from October 5 to 7 in French and from December 6 to 9 in English, for a total of 50 women entrepreneurs from 14 countries across East and West Africa.

During both masterclass sessions, the WIPO Academy gave an interactive skills-building lecture on trademarks and business opportunities, with an intellectual property (IP) case study to illustrate the impact of trademark protection on business growth. WIPO’s support to the masterclass is aligned with its membership to UNCTAD’s eTrade for all initiative, which aims to scale up developing countries’ use of and benefit from ecommerce.
