2 Commencement of Part 2 of Patents (Trans-Tasman Patent Attorneys and

Other Matters) Amendment Act 2016

Part 2 of the Patents (Trans-Tasman Patent Attorneys and Other Matters) Amendment Act 2016 comes into force on 24 February 2017.
Michael Webster, Clerk of the Executive Council.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This order brings Part 2 of the Patents (Trans-Tasman Patent Attorneys and Other
Matters) Amendment Act 2016 (the amendment Act) into force on 24 February
2017. On that date, all of the provisions of the amendment Act will have commenced. The main effect of Part 2 of the amendment Act is to provide for a joint registration
regime with Australia for patent attorneys.
To avoid doubt, Part 2 will come into force at the beginning of 24 February 2017 (see section 10(1) of the Interpretation Act 1999). That means Part 2 will come into force before the close of that day, when it would otherwise have expired (see section 2(3) of the amendment Act).
Issued under the authority of the Legislation Act 2012. Date of notification in Gazette: 26 January 2017.

This order is administered by the Ministry of Business, Innovation, and Employment.
