Details Details Year of Version 1973 Dates Entry into force: July 10, 1973 Adopted: June 20, 1973 Type of Text Framework Laws Subject Matter Other Notes The current Constitution of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas is part of the Schedule to the Bahamas Independence Order of 1973. This order was made on 20th June 1973, laid before Parliament on 26th June 1973 and came into operation on July 10, 1973. Chapters IV, V, VI and VII provide for a clear separation of powers between the different organs of government. The Constitution of the Bahamas does not contain provisions concerning the protection of intellectual property rights. However, Article 15(c) provides for the protection from deprivation of property without compensation. Article 27 also prohibits the compulsory taking of property of any description or any right or interest over property of any description. Property of 'any description' seems to include intellectual property, and can be compulsorily taken only when the specific conditions stated in the Constitution are satisfied.
