Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works

Accession by the United Republic of Tanzania

The Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) presents his compliments to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and has the honor to notify him of the deposit by the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, on April 25, 1994, of its instrument of accession to the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works of September 9, 1886, as revised at Paris on July 24, 1971, and amended on September 28, 1979, with the declaration that the United Republic of Tanzania avails itself of the faculties provided for in Articles II and III of the Appendix to the said Convention.

Furthermore, the said instrument of accession contains the following declaration: "Pursuant to Article 33(2) of the said Convention as so revised, the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania declares that the United Republic of Tanzania does not consider itself bound by the provisions of paragraph (1) of Article 33 of that Convention."

The United Republic of Tanzania has not heretofore been a member of the International Union for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works ("Berne Union"), founded by the Berne Convention.

The Berne Convention, as revised at Paris on July 24, 1971, and amended on September 28, 1979, will enter into force, with respect to the United Republic of Tanzania, on July 25, 1994. On that date, the United Republic of Tanzania will become a member of the Berne Union.

The United Republic of Tanzania belongs to Class Ster for the purpose of establishing its contribution to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
