Nice Agreement Concerning the International Classification of Goods and Services for the Purposes of the Registration of Marks

Application of the Nice Agreement to Hong Kong, China

The Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) presents his compliments to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and has the honor to transmit a letter dated November 22, 2012, from His Excellency Mr. Liu Zhenmin, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of the People's Republic of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva and Other International Organizations in Switzerland.

The declaration contained in this letter shall take effect on February 27, 2013.

Excellency,

I have the honor to refer to the Nice Agreement Concerning the International Classification of Goods and Services for the Purposes of the Registration of Marks of June 15, 1957, as revised on July 14, 1967, and on May 13, 1977, and amended on September 28, 1979 (hereinafter referred to as the "agreement"), to which the Government of People's Republic of China (hereinafter referred to as the PRC) deposited the Instrument of Accession on May 5, 1994, and, on behalf of the Government of the PRC, to state the following:

In accordance with the Basic Law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the PRC, the Government of the PRC decides that the Agreement applies to Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the PRC.

It would be appreciated if the contents of the Note could be placed formally on record and brought to the attention of all the other Parties to the Agreement.

I avail myself of this opportunity to renew to Your Excellency the assurances of my highest consideration.
