Nice Notification No. 16
Nice Agreement Concerning the International Classification of Goods and Services for the Purposes of the Registration of Marks

Notifications received from the States listed hereafter and concerning the application of the transitional provisions (five year privilege)

The Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) presents his compliments to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and, in accordance with the provisions of the above international instrument, adopted at Stockholm, has the honor to notify him of the notifications deposited by the Governments of the States listed hereafter in which these Governments indicate their desire to avail themselves of the provisions of Article 16(2) of the Stockholm Act of the Nice Agreement.

These notifications entered into force on the date of their receipt, that is, on:

August 17, 1970, for the Spanish State;
August 25, 1970, for the Portuguese Republic;
September 11, 1970, for the Kingdom of the Netherlands;
September 14, 1970, for the Kingdom of Morocco;
September 18, 1970, for the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.

Pursuant to the provisions of the said Article, these States, which are members of the Nice Special Union, may, for five years from April 26, 1970, the date of entry into force of the Convention Establishing the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), exercise the rights provided under Articles 5 to 8 of the Stockholm Act of the Nice Agreement, as if they were bound by those Articles.
