The Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) presents his compliments to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and has the honor to notify him of the deposit by the Government of Japan, on January 1, 1997, of its instrument of accession to the Trademark Law Treaty, done at Geneva on October 27, 1994.
The said instrument of accession was accompanied by a declaration, in accordance with Article 21(1) of the Trademark Law Treaty, that the provisions of Articles 3(1)(a), (1)(b) and (2), 5(1) and (4), 7(2), 11 and 13(1)(a), (1)(c), (2), (4), (6) and (7) shall not apply to defensive marks, and by the declaration referred to in Article 22(6) of the said Treaty.
The Trademark Law Treaty will enter into force, with respect to Japan, on April 1, 1997.
