Signature by the German Democratic Republic contained the following declaration: "The Government of the German Democratic Republic takes the opportunity, with reference to the provisions of Article 12(3) and (4) of the Agreement Establishing an International Classification of the Figurative Elements of Marks, to reaffirm that the requirements of the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples, adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations on December 14, 1960 (Resolution 1514 (XV)), have not yet been complied with to their full extent, and declares that the German Democratic Republic regards the end of colonialism and the realization of the right of all peoples to self-determination as an important prerequisite for ensuring international security and world peace."
