EXPLANATORY NOTE
This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.
The Patents, Designs, and Trade Marks Convention Order 1996 specifies the countries that are "convention countries" for the purposes of the Patents Act 1953, the Designs Act 1953, and the Trade Marks Act 1953.
This order, which comes into force 28 days after notification in the Gazette, amends that order. It-
(a) Replaces a reference to Zaire with a reference to the Democratic Republic of the Congo:
(b) Replaces a reference to the United Kingdom (and Hong Kong and the Isle of Man) with separate references to Hong Kong and the United Kingdom (and the Isle of Man):
(c) Provides that Equador and Guatemala are now to be convention countries for the purposes of all 3 Acts (rather than just the Designs Act 1953 and the Trade Marks Act 1953, as was previously the case):
(d) Adds Colombia, Equatorial Guinea, Fiji, Grenada, Mozambique, Nicaragua, Panama, Papua New Guinea, Qatar, Sierra Leone, the Solomon Islands, and the United Arab Emirates to the list of countries that are convention countries for the purposes of all 3 Acts.
Issued under the authority of the Acts and Regulations Publication Act 1989.
Date of notification in Gazette: 18 December 1997.
This order is administered in the Ministry of Commerce.
