The Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) presents his compliments to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and has the honor to notify him of the deposit by the Government of the People's Republic of China, on July 10, 1992, of its instrument of accession to the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works of September 9, 1886, as revised at Paris on July 24, 1971, and amended on October 2, 1979, with the declaration that the Government of the People's Republic of China avails itself of the faculties provided for in Articles II and III of the Appendix to the said Convention.
The People's Republic of China has not heretofore been a member of, the International Union for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works ("Berne Union"), founded by the Berne Convention.
The Berne Convention, as revised at Paris on July 24, 1971, and amended on October 2, 1979, will enter into force, with respect to the People's Republic of China, three months after the date of this notification, that is, on October 15, 1992. On that date, the People's Republic of China will become a member of the Berne Union.
The People's Republic of China will belong to Class V for the purpose of establishing its contribution towards the budget of the Berne Union.
