Call for Interest: Fellowship Programme in Japan

WIPO Japan Office is organising fellowship programme for the international students studying and enrolled in Japanese universities. This initiative is conducted and financed under the Funds-In-Trust Japan Industrial Property Global.

This programme invites fellows to undergo a customized training programme at a Japanese IP law firms and other IP related institutions for the duration of two weeks (10 working days) in the area of Intellectual Property.

Taking into account the focused study areas and interests of fellows, WIPO and the host institution will customize the training programme. Furthermore, one or more patent lawyers (or other experts) will be the fellow’s personal tutor throughout the programme.

Training programme will include items such as lectures in IP and IP strategy, practical case studies, visit to relevant institutions (e.g., Japan Patent Office and Courts) and presentation of an IP success story in the fellow’s home country.

It is a free programme to participate.

Qualifications

  • Applicant must be enrolled in Japanese universities
  • Applicant must be able to communicate in English and/or Japanese
  • Applicant needs to illustrate that s/he is seriously considering a career in IP
  • Knowledge and experience in IP is desirable but not essential.

Duration

Two weeks (10 working days) between July and September (programme schedule is to be finalised between the fellow and host institution)

Host institution

WIPO Japan Office will nominate candidates to the IP law firms and other IP related institutions in Japan

Other

Depending on the candidate’s residential city, costs incurred for travelling to the venue city (expected to be in Tokyo) and accommodation may be remunerated.
