International Depositary Authorities Meet in Mexico

On September 4 and 5, 2018, the Colección de Microorganismos del Centro Nacional de Recursos Genéticos (CM-CNRG), Tepatitlán de Morelos, Jalisco, Mexico, hosted the second WIPO Meeting of Representatives of International Depositary Authorities (IDAs) under the Budapest Treaty. The event was organized by WIPO and CM-CNRG, an International Deposit Authority since 2015, in accordance with the Budapest Treaty.

Discussion forum

The purpose of the event was to provide to IDAs a forum of discussion and exchange of experiences about administrative and technical aspects in the microorganism deposit process for industrial patent development and to finalize discussions on the amendment of the Code of Practice for IDAs following the preparatory work in the framework of the Budapest Treaty Electronic Forum.

The meeting was opened by Ms. Nahanny Canal Reyes, Divisional Patent Director, Mexican Institute of Industrial Property Office, the Director of WIPO’s Patent Law Division, Mr. Marco Alemán and Mr. José Antonio Rentería Flores, General Director of the Pacific Center Regional Research Center of the National Institute of Forestry Agricultural and Livestock Research (INIFAP) (CM-CNRG is part of INIFAP).

The event was attended by 31 representatives of 27 worldwide accredited collections from different global regions.
