In 2022, WIPO launched the IPO GREEN project with the aim of supporting IP Offices to develop green technology promotion initiatives with support from the Funds-In-Trust Japan Industrial Property Global.
Many IP Offices (IPOs) wish to support their national government’s policies and commitments towards environmental sustainability. The IPO Green project is providing a space for IPOs to be inspired to enact green policies and programs within their domain. The project brings together IPOs to share their experiences and insights. It also provides research and analysis about IPOs’ activities that help to stimulate the development and deployment of new green technology solutions.
As part of the preparations for the project, 19 IPO’s were interviewed about their relevant initiatives, plans and views on how to assist green technologies. Based on this, 13 concept notes were developed, describing various initiatives, their advantages and challenges. It is hoped that the IPOs will contribute to keep developing these concept notes.
IPO GREEN was officially launched at two webinars, on March 15 and 16, 2022, one was on March 15 and the other was on March 16 in 2022, addressing the eastern and western hemispheres respectively. There, WIPO presented the findings of the interviews, and selected IP Offices showed examples of green programs.
A webinar series is now running under this project where IPO’s can present their initiatives, inspiring others and receiving feedback and new ideas. The first webinar was held on June 13 with INPI Brazil on their innovation and business cooperation with the Danish Embassy.
Please visit IPO GREEN website to see what green policies and programs IP Offices in the world have been implementing and participate in the global discussion to achieve the green goal through IPO’s initiatives.
