The World Intellectual Property Organization organized a conference for national public awareness and capacity building on online filing services in collaboration with the Department of Intellectual Property, Ministry of Industry and Commerce of the Lao People's Democratic Republic (PDR) with support from Funds-In-Trust Japan Industrial Property Global in Vang Vieng City, Lao PDR on February21, 2024.
This conference was convened to raise awareness of the benefits of online resources, such as a filing service and databases, and to facilitate the use of the WIPO File System. The conference was also a valuable opportunity to encourage feedback and suggestions from stakeholders on how to improve the online services and visibility of WIPO services in Lao PDR.
The conference was opened by Mr. Xaysomphet Norasingh, Director General of Department of Intellectual Property (DIP), Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MOIC), Lao PDR, and Dr. Juneho Jang, Senior Regional Manager, IP Office Business Solutions Division, World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Mr. Junya Iihoshi, Deputy Director, Information Technology and Patent Information Management Office, Japan Patent Office delivered his opening remarks remotely.
The conference focused on the DIP/MOIC's newly launched trademark online filing service and the online IP database service, utilizing WIPO File and WIPO Publish software, respectively. Through the presentation by DIP/MOIC and WIPO, the participants were able to get an explanation of system functionalities and have their questions answered.
It was a great opportunity to enhance public awareness and capacity building. The feedback collected from the participants would guide future cooperation between DIP/MOIC and WIPO.
