Madrid System: Managing International Trademark Registrations – Make a Correction in the International Register
In certain cases, you can ask us to correct an error in the International Register. You should do this online through eMadrid.
Warning! Once submitted, you cannot retract or modify your request.
What type of error can we correct?
In general, we will only correct typographical or factual errors that were:
- made by WIPO (you may request a correction at any time)
- made by an intellectual property (IP) Office. We will correct the following errors, so long as we receive your request within nine months of the date on which the error was published in the International Register:
- errors resulting from a discrepancy between documents received by WIPO and those filed with the IP Office of a Madrid System member;
- errors in the list of designated Madrid System members; and
- errors in the list of goods and services.
Note: We will also correct minor typographical errors or spelling mistakes made by an IP Office, so long as there is no impact on the rights deriving from the international trademark registration. There is no time limit for this type of correction.
What type of error can’t we correct?
- Errors made by the holder or their representative, including:
- errors in the list of designated Madrid System members; and
- errors in the list of goods and services.
- Errors concerning the classification of goods and services, except those resulting from failure to classify them in accordance with the Nice Classification.
How much does it cost?
A request for correction is free of charge
