Current Account at WIPO: How to Open an Account

To open a Current Account at WIPO, you need a WIPO Account.

Step 1: Access or set up a WIPO Account

Click on "Access your WIPO Account" and enter your WIPO Account username and password to sign in.

  1. Click on "Create WIPO Account" to set up and validate your WIPO user profile.
  2. You will receive a verification email to validate your WIPO Account.
  3. Enter your WIPO Account username and password to sign in.

Step 2: Complete the "Request to Open a Current Account at WIPO" form

Once you have logged in to your WIPO Account, you can complete the "Request to Open a Current Account at WIPO" form. You will need to attach proof of identification (e.g., copy of company registration or passport). These supporting documents must be submitted in English or French.

Step 3: Transfer funds

Transfer at least 2000 Swiss francs into WIPO's bank or postal account. When making your transfer, make sure to write in the additional information field: "To open a Current Account at WIPO".

What happens next?

Once processed, we'll transfer the deposit to your new Current Account at WIPO and send your account number by email to the address you entered along with additional information on how to access the Current Account portal.

If your initial payment (or any subsequent payments) are made in a currency other than Swiss francs, the amount will be converted at the bank’s exchange rate and credited to your Current Account at WIPO in Swiss francs. If the currency cannot be freely converted into Swiss francs, it will be returned to you and your Current Account at WIPO will not be opened.

Warning – WIPO reserves the right to close any Current Account at WIPO for which the terms and conditions PDF, Terms and conditions of WIPO Current Account are not fulfilled or not complied with. We also reserve the right to close any Current Account at WIPO which has been dormant (i.e. no transactions in or out of the account) for more than two years, or if the balance drops below CHF 200. Failure to respond to communications concerning your Current Account at WIPO may lead to the write-off of any remaining balance.
