The Third Session of the Asian-Arab IP Dialogue between Japan and selected Arab countries representing, took place in Cairo on January 31 and February 1, 2023, with a focus on utilizing the Intellectual Property (IP) system for economic, social and cultural development in the digital era.
Organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in cooperation with the Japan Patent Office (JPO) and the League of Arab States (LAS), the meeting brought together representatives from Intellectual Property Offices (IPOs) and SMEs intermediaries from Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Morocco, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, and Tunisia, in addition to JPO, LAS, the Patent Office of the Cooperation Council of the Arab States of the Gulf (GCCPO) and the Intellectual Property Training Center of the Cooperation Council of the Arab States of the Gulf (GCCIPTC), to discuss the implications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and IP on Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) and the future of IP in the digital era.
During the meeting, attendees were provided with an overview of the status and prospects of IP and AI and updates from participating IP offices. The event was also an opportunity for participants to explore possible areas of cooperation for establishing effective IP systems using modern technologies.
The IP for Business Division (IPBD) gave an insight on the implications of IP and AI for SMEs along with an overview of its menu of services, including the IP Management Clinics for SMEs and Startups program.
