The Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) presents his compliments to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and has the honor to notify him of the deposit by the Government of the Republic of Yemen, on April 14, 2008, of its instrument of accession to the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works of September 9, 1886, as revised at Paris on July 24, 1971, and amended on September 28, 1979 (Berne Convention).
The said instrument of accession was also accompanied by the following declaration: "as allowed by Article I of the Special Provisions Regarding Developing Countries, under the Appendix to the Berne Convention, the Republic of Yemen will avail itself of both faculties provided for in Article II (Limitations on the Right of Translation) and Article III (Limitation on the Right of Reproduction) of the said Appendix."
The Berne Convention will enter into force, with respect to the Republic of Yemen, on July 14, 2008. On that date, the Republic of Yemen will also become a member of the International Union for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works ("Berne Union"), founded by the Berne Convention.
