The Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) presents his compliments to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and has the honor to refer to the deposit by the Hellenic Republic, on May 10, 2000, of its instrument of ratification of the Protocol Relating to the Madrid Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Marks, adopted at Madrid on June 27, 1989 ("Madrid Protocol (1989)") with a declaration that, pursuant to Article 5(2)(b) of the Madrid Protocol (1989), the time limit of one year referred to in Article 5(2)(a) shall be replaced by 18 months.
The Director General has the honor to notify that the Government of the Hellenic Republic deposited, on May 20, 2005, a declaration according to which under Article 5(2)(c) of the Madrid Protocol, when a refusal of protection may result from an opposition to the granting of protection, such refusal may be notified after the expiry of the 18-month limit.
The said declaration will enter into force, with respect to the Hellenic Republic, on August 20, 2005.
