The Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) presents his compliments to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and, in accordance with the provisions of Article 17(5)(i) of the Vienna Agreement Establishing an International Classification of the Figurative Elements of Marks, done at Vienna on June 12, 1973, has the honor to notify him that, by the expiration of the required period (that is, on December 31, 1973), the following States had signed the Agreement:
- Denmark, France, Germany (Federal Republic of), Hungary, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Switzerland, Yugoslavia, on June 12, 1973;
- German Democratic Republic, on November 29, 1973; Belgium and Monaco, on December 10, 1973; Brazil, on December 11, 1973; Sweden, on December 19, 1973; Austria, on December 27, 1973; Romania, on December 31, 1973.
When affixing their signatures, the plenipotentiaries of certain governments made the following declarations:
German Democratic Republic:
"The Government of the German Democratic Republic takes the opportunity, with reference to the provisions of Article 12(3) and (4) of the Agreement Establishing an International Classification of the Figurative Elements of Marks, to reaffirm that the requirements of the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples, adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations on December 14, 1960 (Resolution 1514 (XV)), have not yet been complied with to their full extent, and declares that the German Democratic Republic regards the end of colonialism and the realization of the right of all peoples to self-determination as an important prerequisite for ensuring international security and world peace." (Translation)
Hungary:
"The Government of the Hungarian People's Republic, in accordance with paragraph (2) of Article 16 of the Vienna Agreement Establishing an International Classification of the Figurative Elements of Marks, done in Vienna, on June 12, 1973, does not consider itself bound by paragraph (1) of Article 16 of the aforementioned Agreement."
In accordance with the provisions of Article 12(1), the Agreement is subject to ratification by the signatory States listed above. It is open for accession by any State party to the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property.
Instruments of ratification or accession must be deposited with the Director General of WIPO.
