The Constitution of Sierra Leone (Amendment) Act, 2013.

Being an Act to amend the Constitution of Sierra Leone, 1991.

ENACTED by the President and Members of Parliament in this present Parliament assembled.

1. The Constitution of Sierra Leone 1991 is amended by the repeal and replacement of subsection (1) of section 79 by the following:–

79 (1) The Speaker of Parliament shall be elected by the Members of Parliament from among persons who are–

(a) Members of Parliament and who had served as such for not less than five years; or

(b) qualified to be Members of Parliament and who had served as such for not less than ten years”,

and who are not less than forty years.

2. The Constitution of Sierra Leone, 1991 is amended by the repeal and replacement of subsections (2) and (3) of section 80 by the following:–

“(2) No person shall be elected Deputy Speaker unless the person is a Member of Parliament and had served as such for not less than five years.

(3) The Members of Parliament shall elect a person to the office of Deputy Speaker–

(a) at the first sitting of Parliament; or

(b) at the first sitting of Parliament after the occurence of a vacancy in the office of Deputy Speaker or so soon thereafter as may be convenient.”
