Whereas Nigeria is a party to the Universal Copyright Convention 1952 and I, Wennike Briggs, Federal Commissioner for Trade, am satisfied that the countries named in the Schedule hereto (being also parties to the said convention) provide for protection of copyright in works which are protected under the Copyright Decree 1970:

Now Therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 14 of the said Decree and of all other powers enabling me in that behalf, I hereby make the following Order:—

Extension of Protection

1.—(1) The application of section 2 of the Copyright Decree 1970 is hereby extended—

(a) to individuals who are citizens of or domiciled in any of the countries specified in the Schedule hereto, and

(b) to bodies corporate established by or under the laws of any of the said countries.

(2) The application of section 3 of the said Decree is hereby extended—

(a) to works, other than sound recordings and broadcasts, first published in any of the said countries, and

(b) to sound recording made in any of the said countries.

(3) The remaining provisions of the said Decree shall apply in relation to the said countries to the extent necessary to give effect to sub-paragraph (1) and (2) above.

Citation and Commencement

2. This Order may be cited as the Copyright (Reciprocal Extension) Order 1972 and shall be deemed to have come into force on 24th December 1970.
