The Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) presents his compliments to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and has the honor to notify him of the deposit by the Government of Malaysia, on June 28, 1990, of its instrument of accession to the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works of September 9, 1886, as revised at Paris on July 24, 1971, and amended on October 2, 1979, with the declaration that the Government of Malaysia avails itself of the faculties provided for in Articles II and III of the Appendix to the said Convention.
Malaysia has not heretofore been a member of the International Union for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works ("Berne Union"), founded by the Berne Convention.
In accordance with Article 29(2)(a) of the Berne Convention, as revised at Paris on July 24, 1971, and amended on October 2, 1979, the said Convention will enter into force, with respect to Malaysia, on the date indicated by the Government of Malaysia, that is, on October 1, 1990. On that date, Malaysia will become a member of the Berne Union.
Malaysia will belong to Class VII for the purpose of establishing its contribution towards the budget of the Berne Union.
