The Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) presents his compliments to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and has the honor to refer to the deposit by the Government of the former Republic of Sri Lanka, on June 23, 1978, of its instrument of ratification of the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works of September 9, 1886, as revised at Paris on July 24, 1971 ("Paris Act (1971)"), which deposit was accompanied by a declaration that its ratification did not apply to Articles 1 to 21 and the Appendix of the Paris Act (1971) (see Berne Notification No. 92).
The Director General of WIPO has the honor to notify that the Government of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka deposited, on September 27, 2005, a declaration extending the effects of the said ratification to Articles 1 to 21 and the Appendix of the Paris Act (1971). The Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka also deposited, on the same date, a declaration according to which it avails itself of the faculties provided for in Articles II and III of the Appendix to the said Convention.
Articles 1 to 21 and the Appendix of the Paris Act (1971), will enter into force, with respect to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, on December 27, 2005. The declaration concerning Articles II and III of the said Appendix is effective, with respect to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, until October 10, 2014.
