The Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) presents his compliments to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and has the honor to refer to the deposit by the Government of Canada, on June 30, 2016, of its instrument of accession to the Marrakesh Treaty to Facilitate Access to Published Works for Persons Who Are Blind, Visually Impaired or Otherwise Print Disabled, adopted at Marrakesh on June 27, 2013. (See Marrakesh Notification No. 20, dated June 30, 2016, for ease of reference).
In this respect, the Director General of WIPO has the honor to notify that the Government of Canada has deposited, on November 28, 2017, the following declaration:
- In accordance with paragraph 4 of Article 4 of the Treaty, the specific exceptions in Canada's national copyright law for the making and providing of accessible format copies for the benefit of persons with print disabilities are confined to works which, in the particular accessible format, cannot be obtained commercially under reasonable terms within the Canadian market or within the destination market, as applicable.
The said declaration will enter into force, with respect to Canada, on February 28, 2018.
