The Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) presents his compliments to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and has the honor to notify him of the receipt, on November 28, 1991, and on January 29, 1992, of written notifications, dated November 20, 1991, and January 27, 1992, respectively, from the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland relating to the International Mycological Institute (IMI), an international depositary authority under the Budapest Treaty on the International Recognition of the Deposit of Microorganisms for the Purposes of Patent Procedure, done at Budapest on April 28, 1977, and amended on September 26, 1980 (see Budapest Notifications No. 30 of February 16, 1983 and No. 75 of January 30, 1990). The texts of the said notifications are attached.
In its notifications, the said Government refers to the change in the name of the Commonwealth Agricultural Bureau (CAB), International Mycological Institute, and states that the assurances it furnished under Article 6(1) of the Budapest Treaty concerning that international depositary authority will continue to apply to it under its new title, the International Mycological Institute (IMI). The said Government also informs of the change, as from October 1992, of the address of the said Institute.
In its notification dated November 20, 1991, the said Government sets forth an extension and a clarification of the list of kinds of microorganisms accepted for deposit by the International Mycological Institute.
The extension and the clarification of the list of the kinds of microorganisms accepted for deposit by the International Mycological Institute (IMI) under the Budapest Treaty will take effect as from the date (February 29, 1992) of the publication in the February 1992 issue of Industrial Property/La Propriété industrielle of that extension and clarification.

I have the honour to refer to the Budapest Treaty on the International Recognition of the Deposit of Micro-organisms for the Purposes of Patent Procedure, opened for signature at Budapest from April 28 to December 31, 1977.
The Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland hereby notifies you that the assurances furnished in its communication of 21 January 1983 concerning the Culture Collection of the Commonwealth Mycological Institute, which was the subject of Budapest Notification No. 30, will continue to apply to this International Depositary Authority (formerly the CAB International Mycological Institute) under its new title, the International Mycological Institute.

Text of the Notification of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, dated November 20, 1991, Relating to the International Mycological Institute (IMI) (formerly the "Commonwealth Agricultural Bureau (CAB), International Mycological Institute")
NOTIFICATION
I have the honour to refer to the Budapest Treaty on the International Recognition of the Deposit of Microorganisms for the Purposes of Patent Procedure, opened for signature at Budapest from 28 April to 31 December 1977, and to the communication of 31 March 1983 from the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland nominating the International Mycological Institute (IMI), formerly the CAB International Mycological Institute, as an International Depositary Authority under the Treaty.
In accordance with rule 3.3 of the Regulations under the Treaty, the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland hereby notify you of the following extensions to and clarification of the list of organisms that the IMI will accept for deposit under the Budapest Treaty.
"Fungal isolates (including yeasts) and bacteria (including actinomycetes), other than known human and animal pathogens, that can be preserved without significant change to their properties by methods of preservation in use."
Organisms up to and including ACDP Category 2* deposits are accepted by the Collection. (* Advisory Committee on Dangerous Pathogens Categorisation of pathogens according to hazard and categories of containment, HMSO, London, 1990.)
Notwithstanding the foregoing, the IMI reserves the right to refuse to accept any material for deposit which in the opinion of the Curator presents an unacceptable risk or is technically unsuitable to handle. The IMI will accept organisms which do not significantly change after long term nitrogen freezing or freeze-drying. A statement regarding potential pathogenicity and storage conditions is required when a deposit is made.
The fees for a deposit remain unchanged.
