'The Act contains provisions concerning subject matter and scope of the copyright and related rights, including provisions on limitations to and duration of the rights protected, transfer of rights, tort liability, liability for damages, enforcement, and applicability of the Act.'

This consolidated version of the Copyright Act incorporates all the amendments up to Act No. 1654/1996 of December 22, 1995, on Amendments to Copyright Act, which entered into force on January 1, 1996.

CHAPTER 1Subject matter and scopeArticle 1A person who has created a literary or artistic work shall have copyright therein, whether it bea fictional or descriptive representation in writing or speech, and whether it be a musical or dramatic work,a cinematographic work, a photographic wor k or other work of fine art, a product of architecture, artistichandicraft, industrial art, or expressed in some other manner. (446/95)Maps and other descriptive drawings or graphically or three-dimensionally executed works, andcomputer programs, shall also be considered literary works. (34/91)Article 2Within the limitations stated hereinafter, copyright shall include the exclusive right to control a workby producing copies thereof and by making it available to the public, be it in the original or an altered form,in translation or adaptation, in other literary or artistic form, or by other technical means.The recording of a work on contrivances by which it can be reproduced shall also be considereda production of copies.A work is made available to the public when it is performed in public or when copies of it are offeredfor sale, rental or lending, or otherwise distributed to the public or publicly exhibited. The performance ofa work at a place of business for a comparatively large closed group of people shall be considered a publicperformance.Article 3When copies of a work are produced, or when it is made available to the public, the name of theauthor shall be stated to the extent and in the manner required by proper usage.A work may not be altered in a manner which is prejudicial to the author’s literary or artisticreputation, or to his individuality; nor may it be made available to the public in such a form or context as toprejudice the author in the manner stated.FI001ENCopyright, Act, 08/07/1961, No. 404page 1 / 25
