The Act authorizes the USPTO to act as “International Searching Authority and International Preliminary Examining Authority” with respect to international applications (Section 3). It made technical amendments to U.S. Patent Law, 35 U.S.C. §§ 1 et seq. to provisions relating to the national stage of processing international applications designating the United States (Section 7).
The date of enforcement of this Act is the date chapter II of the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) entered into force (See section 9). The PCT entered into force on January 28, 1978.
