The Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) presents his compliments to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and has the honor to notify the receipt on June 30, 2023 of a communication, from the Government of the Kingdom of Spain regarding a change in the text of the list of kinds of microorganisms accepted for deposit by the Banco Español de Algas (BEA), an International Depositary Authority under the Budapest Treaty on the International Recognition of the Deposit of Microorganisms for the Purposes of Patent Procedure (Budapest Treaty), done at Budapest on April 28, 1977, and amended on September 26, 1980 (see Budapest Notification No. 239 of October 28, 2005).
In the communication, the Government of the Kingdom of Spain indicates that the Banco Español de Algas (BEA) has decided to clarify the kinds of microorganisms accepted for deposit and that, as of September 1, 2023, only microalgae and cyanobacteria that grow autotrophically will be accepted, rather than microalgae and cyanobacteria in general.
