The Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) presents his compliments and has the honor to notify the deposit by the Government of the Russian Federation, on May 11, 2023, of its instrument of accession to the Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement on Appellations of Origin and Geographical Indications (Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement), adopted at Geneva on May 20, 2015.
The said instrument was accompanied by the following declarations:
- In accordance with Article 6(5)(b) of the Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement, the Russian Federation declares that, in accordance with its national legislation, a registered appellation of origin or geographical indication shall be protected from the date on which the decision to grant legal protection is taken;
- In accordance with Article 7(4) of the Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement, the Russian Federation declares that protection resulting from international registration shall extend to the territory of the Russian Federation only if a fee is paid to cover the cost of the substantive examination of the international registration and the administrative fee relating to the use by the beneficiaries of the appellation of origin or geographical indication in the Russian Federation; and
- In accordance with Article 29(4) of the Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement, the Russian Federation declares that the time limit referred to in Article 15(1) of the Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement shall be extended by one year, in accordance with the procedures specified to that effect in the Regulations under the Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement.
The Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement will enter into force, with respect to the Russian Federation, on August 11, 2023.
