The Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) presents his compliments to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and has the honor to notify him of the receipt, on May 21, 1987, of a notification, dated May 15, 1987, of the Government of the United States of America informing that the Agricultural Research Culture Collection, an international depositary authority under the Budapest Treaty on the International Recognition of the Deposit of Microorganisms for the Purposes of Patent Procedure, done at Budapest on April 28, 1977, as amended on September 26, 1980 (see Budapest Notification No. 12 of December 8, 1980), is to be known as the "Agricultural Research Service Culture Collection" and also informing of a new list of the kinds of microorganisms that the said international depositary authority accepts for deposit under the said Treaty. The text of the said notification is attached.
The change in the name and in the list of the kinds of microorganisms that will be accepted for deposit by the Agricultural Research Service Culture Collection will be published in the July/August 1987 issue of Industrial Property /La Propriété industrielle. The change in the list of kinds of microorganisms will take effect as from the date (August 31, 1987) of the said publication.

NOTIFICATION
This is to inform you that the Agricultural Research Culture Collection, an International Depositary Authority under the Budapest Treaty, is now known as the Agricultural Research Service Culture Collection.
Please be further informed that this Culture Collection accepts for deposit under the Budapest Treaty all strains of agriculturally and industrially important bacteria, yeasts, molds and Actinomycetales, except:

k. Plasmids not inserted in microorganisms.
The Collection will accept recombinant strains of microorganisms, strains containing recombinant DNA molecules, strains containing their own naturally occurring plasmid(s), strains containing inserted naturally occurring plasmid(s) from another host, strains containing inserted constructed plasmid(s), and strains containing viruses of any kind, excluding those already listed as nonacceptable, only if the deposit document accompanying the microbial preparation(s) includes a clear statement that progeny of the strain(s) can be processed at a Physical Containment Level of P1 or less and Biological Containment requirements meet all other criteria specified by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, National Institutes of Health; "Guidelines for Research Involving Recombinant DNA Molecules, December 1978" (Federal Register Vol. 43, No. 247-Friday, December 22, 1978) and any subsequent revisions.
